Here's The Loot

The family came home with ribbons galore and a little cash from our county fair entries.  This was our first time ever entering the fair and it was a learning experience.  Next year will be even better!

Here is a picture of Drew wearing his Simplicity shorts on the first day of school.  I may never learn to sew a fly as slick as the faux fly works!

T-Shirt Refashions

This was Andy's first week back to school and football doubles week, so things have been hectic around here!  It's also fair week and our kids are in two fair parades.  The Kids' Parade is tomorrow and our church is getting a group together to walk in the parade.  I rounded up t-shirts from our community work day last spring and used the Lil Blue Boo Hoodie pattern to refashion the adult t's into kid sizes.

While I had my ball-point needles in the serger & machine, I also refashioned some of Andy's football shirts into shirts for the girls and I.  For mine, I used another t-shirt as a pattern for tracing.  Remember my first tutorial?  It was a Too-Big to Ladies-Fit T-shirt refashion; check it out if you need inspiration.  For Mally's, I used LBB's Sienna Dress pattern - another favorite.  They turned out great!

Another project I'm working on is shorts for Drew.  He gets left out of my sewing and is in need of new shorts after gaining 10 lbs this summer!  I'm using Simplicity 4760  only cheated and made a faux fly instead of a zipper.  The test pair fit well so I need to make some in denim now.  I referenced from my Sewing Clothes Kids Love book for the how-to and had bookmarked this tutorial also.  I still haven't sewn a zippered fly and was too frazzled to try it now.  The faux fly was a great alternative.

Abby, Drew and I all entered the County Fair this year.  I had several clothing creations, a family garden vegetable collection and some canned goods.  Abby made bar cookies and drew a family portrait.  Drew chose to enter a Lego creation.  We're headed to the fair after the parade tomorrow and are anxious to see if we won ribbons :)

Pattern Testing ~ Owly Baby Yoga Pants

I was browsing Etsy PDF patterns the other night and came across a listing for Owly Baby's Yoga Pants - Pattern Tester Edition. I snatched it up and received the pattern to review. This pattern will offer a comfy wide-leg version or more fitted yoga pants. With a comfy fold-over waistband, these will be a staple for Mally!

Owly Baby offers adorable PDF patterns for skirts, dresses, tops & pants as well as some ready-made accessories.  Some patterns are offered through size 12.  It's hard to find big girls' patterns, so keep them coming!  Look for the new Yoga Pants pattern coming soon to Owly Baby.

DMK Stylish Kids Coat -Take 1

I purchased two jacket patterns from the Dear My Kids Etsy shop, the Stylish Kids Coat and Unisex Pea Coat.  My first one to sew was the Stylish Kids Coat for Mallory.  Love it!

I was really pleased with this pattern. It was well-written and sizing was accurate. I will make this again, likely with a lighter-weight cotton. The fabric I used for this one was thrifted baby cord and the lining is cotton scraps from my stash. DMK is hosting a sewing contest on her blog, so check it out here!

Welcome Home Giveaway ~ Extended!

I'm back from a wonderful week traveling to see Clay Walker then up to visit our family in N. Idaho.  My garden is starting to produce lots of veggies so most of my free time will be doing canning & freezing the next month or so.  I do have a few giveaways planned, though!
Photo from Brown Paper Packages
I really liked this tutorial from Brown Paper Packages for the Do-Rag Sports Headband.  I made one for me and wore it all week while fishing & working!  The one I made for the girls was too small; they must have big heads :)  Since it doesn't fit, why not give it to one of my readers?!
This headband is reversible and measures about 17" with slight stretch to 18" so it should fit infants and toddlers / small girls.  To enter, simply leave a comment.  Followers can leave a 2nd comment for an extra entry.  For a third entry, like Mama Lusco Handmade on Facebook.  I will also include your choice of  rosette hair clips or pins. A second winner will get their choice of hair clips. Please be sure your email is public on your blog or leave it in your comment.  Contest open until Friday evening, August 20th.  US and Canada residents only. Thanks for stopping by!
